Truck
rolling across the grated bridge on Missouri River took some getting used to.
Decatur RV Park was almost under the toll bridge. The noise was intense. Until
you became accustomed to the sound you scrunched up expecting to hear a truck
splash in the Missouri.
Onan
generator starter fixed in City of Kearney's Detroit Diesel. Told directions
to Tourist Historic Bridge along Hi-way service road.
And
I thought all they talked about in the entire state was their "Corn Husker"
football team. Their sports enthusiasm is almost militant. I let all my caustic
football comments pass.

We
toured all around the area, just cruising, to local small towns, driving up
and down all the side streets and reading all the brass monuments. Learning
the history of the area, we're not in a hurry.
While
we were buying the fishing licenses in Decatur, Nebraska (population 600), the
shopkeeper showed us Nebraska humor. He nodded at the lady, busy in her yard
and jokingly commented, "Crazy lady is dressing her geese again." We looked
across and a nice elderly lady 'was' dressing geese. Several geese were life
size plastic. She was decorating each with black jacket, orange bowtie and a
black pointed hat. The shopkeeper then gentle told us that she decorates for
each holiday. Halloween was in two weeks. His story continued lovingly, "She
dresses them as Santa Clause for Christmas."
Wail whistle jolts dark night raising back hairs, shivering
in my road train.
Rails, rocks shimmer, glimmer from light seen by my night vision's strain.
Willie Nelson's The City of New Orleans Teri having read the train's pain.
Our syncopated inline headlights moving mile after mile like a secret fain.
City of New Orleans wrecked week before & heard it was death
throws.
Love is rhythm of the road beating as we flowed the sync feeling grows.
Song's train rhythm of slow death song and of the train that just wrecked.
Matched speed and traded whistle for horn as we proceeded unchecked.
Cabrillo Sport Center's great gold Elk Statues stood by a
gigantic store.
Oasis for sports enthusiast, two floors, animals, grizzly poised in a roar.
Went over Ogallala Dam to great County Park looking out at dam & lake.
Ogallala's Main Street barricaded, pioneer shops and home made cake.
Swirling rivers as we threw in our lures. Catching fish on
the Missouri.
Insider expert tips told of special casts with plastic bug so white & furry.
A few more casts are all we'd need to get the bass to cook with curry.
Two hours and not a nibble! Maybe I reeled up in too much of a hurry.
One hour & miles on narrow winding gravel roads to a place
finally found.
Brass marker, Tribal Chief buried upright with his horse in a sand mound.
Earlier traveled Northern prairie, enjoying ducks, birds & game on hoof.
Strange house style, small forward angled cut on front and rear of roof.
Bridge
was a great historic journey from Lewis & Clark to today's Freeway 80. An escalator
took us to begin our enjoyable walk across the enclosed bridge overlooking four
lanes of mid country traffic. Our visional travel with pictures, dimensional
displays and in character manikins was supplemented with hand audio recordings.
It also showed how different vehicles going across our country carried their
load.
